Stop cheering for McDavid. If he wins the Cup this year, in the eyes of the casual fans he will take Gordie’s place in Big Four. They will never stop riding his c*ck while shitting on the past if Connor overcomes 0:3 deficit, gets the trophy and the point record.

I think Washington getting PLD is enough to confirm they’re fully entering rebuild and just taking on the contract to have some occupied cap space. PLD probably just finishes up an uneventful career on one of the worst teams in the league. Ovi will catch the record and they’ll have 0 reason to not fully tank year after year until PLD is gone.

Devils weren’t making a run anyway even if they made it with how shitty they looked. The issues ran beyond the goaltending. So not “saving the season” just to get their shit packed in by the Rangers or Canes and instead ending up with the 10OA pick is a much preferred option.

The NMC for Markstrom probably didn't affect his value much. He's 34 going on 35 with two years left on his deal. He's been inconsistent the last couple of years for Calgary who has been a better defensive team. Thinking he'd get much more than a 1st + young defensive defenseman is silly imo. He might not even be playing for the Devils by the time the pick is made by Calgary.

TLTR - As a Swede, I am not at all worried about Albert. His Dad is Roger "Ragge" Johansson. Roger is perhaps best known for his fiery will and self-sacrificing playing style. Roger is not one of the most famous Swedish defenders we have had, however very useful in his team, a work horse. The saying is - The apple normally doesn't fall far from the tree. Albert's new contract with RW is good as it gives both parties a chance to evaluate where they stand next year. Albert was taken in the second round in his draft year, which means his ceiling is probably not that high. As a fan, we need to understand that the demands cannot be set too high there, give him time to adapt and mature. Advantage is that he is still young and developable as time is something RW has a lot of. Let's not forget that even Peter the Great was a "late bloomer" after all. However, the floor of Albert is very solid when it comes to his overall skills. What stands out to me is his IQ, very good skater and two-way defender. He obviously has more tools than these, however, this is what I think he was drafted for because his fundamentals are solid overall. Comparing him with Maatta is not entirely wrong as there are similarities. If Albert reaches that minimum level, I'm happy as a "draft pick". However, I think there is more to squeeze out of Albert. Not saying he'll be a RW top 4 defender here, but more so than Maatta. I like Maatta, so nothing negative about his career so far. Everything will probably be about what Albert is willing to sacrifice in order to reach the next step. Which translates to his focus being mostly purely mental work and this is where his father's dnd comes into play. The Johansson family is a hockey family, Albert's brothers also play at a lower level than Albert. Of the apples the tree produced, Albert is the best chance to reach the NHL.

I watched a number of Griffins games this year and most of the time he would really go unnoticed, "which is a really good thing". He made simple plays to move the puck or retrieve it from the corner. He will be a very good defensive upgrade over Petry or Ghost, these two constantly made defensive mistakes and watched the puck go into the back of their net. Albert will be a defense upgrade for the bottom pair and killing penalties.

Does Yzerman care that much about character? Like Sprong was accused of beating a guy up in a nightclub last summer when he was 26, and I didn't hear a beep about that from Yzerman, much less them trying to nullify his contract due to a breach of a moral clause or something like that, which you would expect from someone that wants their players to be 'upstanding citizens of high moral character'. I don't see him minding one bit that Connelly was a bully/brat towards his teammates sometime when he was 13 or younger, as even the parents that alleges that said it seemed to stem from his competitiveness.

He also drafted Tony D'Angelo. I'd much prefer they draft a guy with unquestionable skill and talent like Connelly than yet another offensively limited forward for the 3rd year in a row. They won't be picking towards the top of the board anymore and still don't have a lot of high end talent in the prospect pool, they need to start making picks with more potential upside even if the odds of it being a bust are higher. There should be at least a couple guys there for them at 15 to pick from, hopefully MBN isn't the guy they target.

Okay I think you guys are way over estimating how much we need to pay someone to get rid of holls contract. At 3 million for 2 more years, that is 2.3 million LESS than Marc Staal in 2021, who did admittedly play in ~20 more games than holl and was better at the time, but not 2.3 million better. All the red wings got was a 2nd round pick and gave nothing in return. So I think saying Holls contract price to get rid of him for nothing in return is a 2nd round pick or more when a long precedent of deals like this have happened under a more confined cap situation is way over estimating how much other GMs for bottom feeders would be asking for.

Paying 2-3 grade A assets for a 50-60 point player and then using 7-8 million in cap space to sign him is insane. Detroit needs to be patient and draft 2-3 high end players and let those ones they’ve hit on develop. We don’t even know the extent of what we have in Danielson Kasper and Mazur.

This past season was obviously tough for Laine as he had too many injuries and Columbus was in absolute shambles, so he wasn't as productive as you would hope. But 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 were good seasons if not for injuries. 2022-2023 was his best season in overall play. His one really bad season was first in Columbus with Torts trying to make him something he will never be. Really the big question with Laine is, can he stay healthy? His injuries this season were a concussion from a flying elbow to the head and one slew foot resulting in a clavicle fracture. Those are unlucky injuries, not something you easily avoid by training better or whatever. Past 3 seasons: 2023-2024 - 6+3=9p in 18 games (27+14=41p in 82 game AVG) 2022-2023 - 22+30=52 in 55 games (33+45=78p in 82 game AVG) 2021-2022 - 26+30=56 in 56 games (38+44=82p in 82 games AVG)

Factor in that the prospects have not played with talent in the NHL yet so you can’t say what their ceiling is.

You guys are so desperate to tear down Holland's Cup Final appearance. Meanwhile we're neck deep in a starless rebuild where we are dreaming of Necas? When does Yzerplan 2.0 begin?

"Starless rebuild." Dude, just admit you know nothing of hockey and move on to something more your speed. Like paint by numbers.

The Kaako situation reminds me of Dan Cleary early in his career. Cleary wasn’t 2 overall but he was almost a top 10 pick that didn’t live up to expectations until his late 20’s with the wings and became a really good middle six winger which Kaako can still become.

Before the series started, I said Panthers in 6. That way McDavid gets the Conn Smythe on home ice. Tonite Oilers win 5-4; Mcdavid O. T. winner. Game 6; 4-3 Panthers. Mcdavid 3pts..

Just throwing this out there, saw on the Sportsnet Broadcast that the Oilers have lost 3 straight on three different occasions this season...each time they followed with at LEAST a 5-game winning streak.
